Michael Moses II,
Ph.D.
Dr. Michael W. Moses II is an Assistant Professor of Higher Education & Qualitative Methods at UC Riverside’s School of Education, prior to which he was a UC Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow also at UCR. He received his PhD in Education from UCLA and specializes in critical race studies, racism in higher education, and qualitative methodologies. His scholarship focuses on the experiences of Students of Color and the racialized implications of qualitative methods to better understand the mismatch between the rhetoric and practice of institutional diversity. Dr. Moses has extensive experience and interdisciplinary expertise as a writing consultant working with underrepresented scholars on various projects, including fellowship applications, job market documents, and dissertations and theses.
Dr. Moses loves to nerd out about the job market. In his spare time—what’s that?!?, he consults with folx on their job market process from the writing of their materials to navigating their campus visits and negotiations. Dr. Moses credits much of his knowledge about the job market to his experience as a student-representative on a faculty search committee and reading academic self-help literature including Kerry Ann Rockquemore’s The Black Academic’s Guide to Winning Tenure Without Losing Your Soul and Karen Kelsky’s The Professor Is In.
