monét cooper

A fourth-year doctoral student, poet, and writer in the Joint Program in English and Education, monét cooper comes to the University of Michigan from Washington, DC, after spending 11 years serving students and families in the secondary English classroom. She uses interiority, Black queer theorizations of selfhood and futurity, and ethnographic methods to learn how LGBTQIA+ African American and Latinx girls and gender non-binary students encounter their humanity in English secondary classrooms. She also researches the impacts of internalized antiblackness on educator relationships with themselves and students and families, curriculum and instruction, perceptions of student potential, and school policy. Just as important, monét is a Georgia Peach. She enjoys baking and eating German chocolate cake, museum and theater visits, reading, writing, walking, and naps.
